One-on-one or a Program
Both work from anywhere on the Coast. Book either call if you’re unsure, and we’ll say which one suits your child.
Prep to Year 12
One-on-one tutoring
One tutor works with your child on whatever their school has set that week, in any subject. Lessons happen in your home or online, and the tutor stays the same from week to week.
How lessons are recorded, reported on and paid for is on the one-on-one tutoring page.
Years 7 to 12, online
Small-group Programs
Online tutoring for Sunshine Coast students in Years 7 to 12, taught live by a qualified teacher in a class of 7 or fewer, with unlimited 30-minute one-on-one video help on top.
The Queensland Programs page lists the workbooks, practice exams and recordings that come with it.
Three steps
How it works
Here is the order things happen in, starting from your first phone call.
A 15-minute call with Jake
Book a free Tutor Match Call. Jake asks about your child, the subject and the times you’re free, and checks whether a tutor can reach your suburb.
Your tutor’s profile
Within 48 hours you get the tutor’s profile and a proposed first lesson by text and email. Confirm it, or ask for another time.
The first lesson
The tutor works out where your child is up to and starts on what’s causing trouble. A written note follows the lesson, and you only pay if it was the right fit.
Subjects
Tutoring by subject
One-on-one lessons cover every school subject. Here is what lessons work on in maths, English, the senior sciences and Year 12.
Prep to Year 12
Maths tutoring on the Sunshine Coast
A maths tutor on the Sunshine Coast works on the topic in front of your child this week, whether that’s fractions in Year 6 or linear equations in Year 9. In the junior years the tutor also checks the skills a new topic depends on, such as negative numbers before algebra, and fixes any gap before moving on.
For Years 7 to 10 there is a weekly online Maths class for each year level. In Years 11 and 12, maths tutoring on the Sunshine Coast covers Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics and General Mathematics, one-on-one. More on our maths tutoring and Maths Methods pages.
This is Leah’s advice for Year 11s starting Maths Methods.
“Students starting Maths Methods need to revise every week to stay on top of the content. They need strong algebra skills, so fix any algebra problems before the work gets too hard. And ask questions whenever you’re unsure.”
Year 1 to Year 12
English tutoring
An English tutor on the Sunshine Coast helps with the task your child is being assessed on, such as a persuasive speech or an analytical essay on a novel. Younger students work on reading fluency, spelling and how to build a sentence. There is a weekly online English class for Years 7 and 8, and one-on-one lessons run up to senior English and Literature. See English tutoring.
Years 11 and 12
Chemistry, Physics and Biology
Senior science tutoring covers Chemistry, Physics and Biology one-on-one, and the Programs teach all three live online, with the class time set on the call. In each of these subjects the Unit 3 and 4 result is half internal assessment and half external exam, so lessons split their time between the next school task and exam-style questions. See Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
Years 11 and 12
QCE, IB and Year 12
One-on-one tutoring covers both the QCE and the IB Diploma. Mountain Creek State High runs the IB alongside the QCE, so students there can get help in either program.
Leah’s advice on choosing Year 11 subjects, and on the term before the external exams:
“Look at the prerequisites for the uni courses you might want, and at what you’re good at. Don’t pick too many difficult subjects.”
“For a lot of subjects, go back through all your notes and make a summary of the key points, formulas, processes and diagrams. Re-reading and summarising helps, and studying from your summary is a lot easier. Do lots of timed practice tests. If you want to do well, start early, especially in subjects that cover all of Units 1 to 4.”
Before Year 11, you can estimate an ATAR or compare senior subjects and what each one needs.
Programs
Weekly classes after school
The classes are online, so it’s the same class whether you live in Caloundra or Cooroy. Each one is 90 minutes long.

Far from a tutor?
If you live in Noosa, the hinterland or Beerwah and no tutor can get to you, distance doesn’t have to decide whether your child gets help.
Online one-on-one lessons give your child the same tutor every week on a shared whiteboard, with every lesson recorded. A Program puts them in a live class of 7 or fewer with a qualified teacher, plus unlimited 30-minute one-on-one video help. Neither one involves a drive.
We also tutor in homes in Brisbane, including Moreton Bay, and on the Gold Coast.

Questions
Questions Sunshine Coast parents ask
Something else? Call 0485 015 649 or email [email protected].
How much does it cost?
A one-hour lesson is $79 online or $99 in your home, paid lesson by lesson with no package. For a Program, we go through the term fee on the free call and send it to you in writing before you commit.
Do your tutors live on the Sunshine Coast?
Not yet.
The tutors on this page teach online, so they can work with your child anywhere on the Coast. A home visit depends on a tutor being able to travel to you, and Jake will tell you on the call whether one can.
We’re in Noosa or the hinterland. Can a tutor come to us?
It’s less likely than in Caloundra or Maroochydore, and Jake will tell you on the call. If nobody can come, your child can learn online with the same tutor each week, or join a live Program class.
How soon can a tutor start?
We aim to send a tutor’s profile within 48 hours of your call with Jake. Finding a tutor who can travel to a Sunshine Coast home can take longer, and online lessons can start while we look.
What checks do your tutors complete?
Each tutor is interviewed, and their ID, experience and references are checked. Any tutor who comes to a Sunshine Coast home holds a Queensland Blue Card first.
Do your lessons follow what Sunshine Coast schools teach?
Yes. Schools such as Maroochydore, Caloundra, Coolum and Noosa District State High Schools, Chancellor State College, Matthew Flinders Anglican College, Sunshine Coast Grammar School and Siena Catholic College teach senior subjects from the QCAA syllabuses our classes follow. One-on-one lessons start from your child’s own schoolwork.
Can you help with Year 12?
Yes. Year 12 tutoring works on the internal assessments due this term and on the external exams in October and November, in any senior subject.
Does a tutor help with the IB?
Yes. One-on-one tutoring covers IB Diploma subjects as well as the QCE, so a student at Mountain Creek State High can get help in either program.
Can we switch from another tutor?
Yes. Tell Jake what your child was working on, and the new tutor starts from there. In a Program, your child joins their year level’s class at the workbook level that suits them.
