How in-home tutoring works
A tutor who lives on the Gold Coast comes to your home at a time you agree. This is what happens between your first call and the first lesson.
Talk to Jake
Book a free 15-minute Tutor Match Call. Jake asks what your child needs help with, how they learn and which times suit your family.
See your tutor’s profile
Within 48 hours we text and email you the tutor’s profile and a time for the first lesson. Reply to confirm it, or ask for a different time.
The first lesson at home
The tutor finds where your child is up to and starts on the topic causing trouble. You get a written note straight after, and if it isn’t the right fit, you don’t pay for the lesson.
Subjects and stages
Tutoring by subject and year level
One-on-one tutoring covers every school subject from Prep to Year 12, and Programs cover Years 7 to 12. This is what lessons look like for the subjects Gold Coast parents ask about.
Prep to Year 12
Maths tutoring on the Gold Coast
Your child’s maths tutor on the Gold Coast starts from the topic your child has at school that week. When a question shows a gap from an earlier year, the tutor fixes that first and then goes back to the class work.
For Years 7 to 10 there is also a weekly Maths class online for each year level, with 7 students or fewer. In Years 11 and 12, one-on-one lessons cover Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics and General Mathematics. Read more about our maths tutoring and Maths Methods tutoring.
Years 11 and 12
Chemistry, Physics and Biology
A chemistry or physics tutor on the Gold Coast works on the senior syllabus your child’s school teaches. In all three sciences, Units 3 and 4 have three internal assessments (a data test, a student experiment and a research investigation) and an external exam worth 50% of the result.
One-on-one lessons work on whichever assessment is next, and the weeks before the external exam go on practice papers under exam timing. Programs also teach all three sciences live online. See Chemistry, Physics and Biology tutoring.
Year 1 to Year 12
English tutoring
An English tutor on the Gold Coast works on reading, writing and the essays and speeches your child is assessed on, up to senior English and Literature. There is also a weekly online English class for Years 7 and 8. More on our English tutoring page.
Prep to Year 6
Primary and NAPLAN
Primary lessons are one-on-one, in your home or online, and work on reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN runs in March of Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, and the tutor can prepare your child for the reading, writing and numeracy tests in the weeks before. See primary school tutoring and NAPLAN tutoring.
Years 11 and 12
QCE and Year 12
QCE tutoring on the Gold Coast covers the three internal assessments and the external exam in each General subject. The internal assessments make up 75% of the result in most subjects, and 50% in Maths and Science subjects. This is how Leah approaches them.
“It depends on what the assessment is, but the first thing I look at is the task sheet. It tells you what you need to do, how it’s supposed to be written, what information to include and all the context.”
“Where students lose marks most often is in reasoning and justifying their answers.”
“A lot of parents don’t know that the external exam covers the same things as the internal assessments. It’s set externally, so even the teachers don’t know exactly what will be on it.”
Before Year 11, you can estimate an ATAR or compare senior subjects and their prerequisites.

Tweed Heads and the border
Tweed Heads and Kingscliff are in New South Wales, so students there follow the NSW syllabus and sit the HSC, not the QCE. One-on-one lessons start from your child’s own schoolwork, so they follow the NSW syllabus too, in your home or online.
NSW runs daylight saving and Queensland doesn’t. From October to April, a 5pm Queensland lesson is 6pm in Tweed Heads. Programs follow the Queensland curriculum, so they suit Queensland students.
We also tutor in homes in Brisbane and on the Sunshine Coast.

Questions
Questions Gold Coast parents ask
Can’t see your question? Call us on 0485 015 649 or email [email protected].
Where are you based, and do you come to Gold Coast homes?
We’re based in Mount Gravatt East in Brisbane, and our Gold Coast tutors live on the Coast. One-on-one tutoring runs in your home across the Gold Coast, or online. In-home lessons are $99 per one-hour lesson. Program classes and consultations are online, so your child joins from home.
Do your tutors live on the Gold Coast?
Yes.
The tutors who teach in Gold Coast homes live on the Gold Coast, and some of their profiles are on this page. Before the first lesson we send you your tutor’s profile, so you know who is coming.
How much does it cost?
One-on-one tutoring is $79 per one-hour lesson online and $99 in your home. There’s no package to buy, and no card is needed until after the first lesson.
For a Program, we go through the term fee on the free call and set it out in writing before you agree to anything.
How soon can a tutor start?
We match your child with a tutor within 48 hours of your call with Jake. We then text and email you the tutor’s profile and a time for the first lesson, and you reply to confirm it.
What checks do your tutors complete?
Every tutor has an interview with an ID check and a review of their experience and references. Tutors who teach in Gold Coast homes hold a Queensland Blue Card before their first lesson.
Do your classes follow what Gold Coast schools teach?
Yes. Gold Coast schools such as Benowa, Miami, Robina and Helensvale State High Schools, The Southport School, St Hilda’s School, All Saints Anglican School and Somerset College teach senior subjects from the same QCAA syllabuses that our classes follow. One-on-one tutoring also covers the IB, which students at the Queensland Academy for Health Sciences study. Lessons start from the work your child has at school that week.
What time are classes?
Program classes run after school on weekdays, Queensland time. This term, Years 7 to 10 Maths runs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and Years 7 and 8 English runs on Tuesday at 5:00pm. One-on-one lessons run 7 days a week, from 7am to 10pm.
Can we talk to you before we start?
Yes. The free Tutor Match Call is 15 minutes with Jake by phone. The free Program Discovery Call is 15 minutes by phone. Neither call enrols your child or takes payment.
Can you help with Year 12?
Yes. Senior students prepare for QCAA internal assessments and external exams with us. We’ll tell you which senior classes are running on the call, and one-on-one tutoring covers every senior subject.
Can a tutor help with QCE Chemistry or Physics?
Yes. One-on-one lessons cover senior Chemistry, Physics and Biology, and Programs teach all three live online. The tutor works on whichever assessment is next: the data test, the student experiment, the research investigation or the external exam, which is worth 50% of the result.
Can we switch from another tutor?
Yes. With one-on-one tutoring, the new tutor starts from where your child is up to. In a Program, your child joins their year level’s class and starts the workbook at the level that suits them.
We’re over the border in Tweed Heads. Can you help?
Yes, with one-on-one tutoring in your home or online. Students in Tweed Heads and Kingscliff follow the NSW syllabus and sit the HSC, and lessons start from their own schoolwork. From October to April, NSW is an hour ahead because of daylight saving, so a 5pm Queensland time is 6pm in Tweed Heads.
