Build the foundations.
Then raise the challenge.
Students in the same high school class are often at very different levels. The three workbook levels let each student work at the right level.
- 01 · FoundationsMake the core ideas and methods reliable.
- 02 · ConnectionsCombine skills and explain your thinking.
- 03 · ChallengeApply what you know to unfamiliar problems.
High-performance pathway
Demonstrate mastery through your workbook and assessment results to unlock advanced problem-solving sessions and extension resources. Tackle the unfamiliar, multi-step questions that stretch beyond routine practice.
Your child moves between workbook levels as their work develops. Your teacher uses their work and assessment results to set the right level of challenge.

Personal investment.
High expectations.
Leah & Jake Founders of KeirEd
With backgrounds in teaching and science, we built KeirEd around a clear belief: students should understand what they are learning, know how to improve and have the support to aim higher.
That belief shapes the program: clear explanations, progressively challenging work and individual help when a question needs more attention. Strong foundations matter. So does knowing when a student is ready for more.
For families, it means a clear starting point and people to talk to about the next step. For students, it means being challenged with support behind them.

Year by year
What matters in each year of high school
Each stage of high school has a different job. Here is what we focus on at each stage, and why it matters for the years that follow.
Years 7 and 8: the move to high school
- Students go from one classroom teacher to many, and homework becomes their job to manage.
- In Maths, fractions, negative numbers and early algebra become the base for everything after them.
- We focus on making core methods reliable and on setting out working the way high school teachers expect.
Years 9 and 10: the lead-up to senior
- Year 9 students sit NAPLAN in Term 1.
- In Year 10, students choose their senior subjects (see our guide to choosing senior subjects). Many schools require a set result in Year 10 Maths before a student can take Mathematical Methods.
- We use these two years to close gaps before senior subjects start.
Years 11 and 12: the QCE and ATAR years
- Units 1 and 2 in Year 11 count toward the QCE but not the ATAR.
- Units 3 and 4 in Year 12 count toward the ATAR through three internal assessments and one external exam.
- In most General subjects the external exam is 25% of the result, and in Maths and Science subjects it is 50%. We prepare students with full practice exams.
- Our free calculator gives a Queensland ATAR estimate from your child’s current marks.
Signs your high schooler needs help
- Marks dropping between Year 7 and Year 9.
- Avoiding homework in one subject, or saying they ‘don’t get it’ after class.
- A senior subject choice that depends on a Year 10 result they aren’t yet getting.
High school tutoring questions
Which year levels do you teach?
Years 7 to 12. Classes are grouped by year level, so a Year 8 student is taught Year 8 content with other Year 8 students.
Which subjects are available?
Maths and Science in Years 7 to 10, and English across Years 7 to 12. In Years 11 and 12 we offer General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics and Literature. We’ll confirm class times for your child’s subject on the call.
When should my child start tutoring in high school?
The earlier a gap is found, the less there is to fix. Many families start in Year 9 or 10 so their child is ready for senior subjects, but any year works.
Does Year 11 count toward the ATAR?
No. Units 1 and 2 in Year 11 count toward the QCE, not the ATAR. They still matter, because Year 12 builds directly on them.
How is Year 12 assessed in Queensland?
Each General subject has three internal assessments set by the school and one external exam set by the QCAA. The external exam is worth 25% in most subjects and 50% in Maths and Science subjects.
Can you help my child choose senior subjects?
Yes. We can talk it through on the call, and our free Year 10 subject selection guide explains prerequisites and workload.
What if my child is behind their year level?
Your child joins their year level’s class and works through the workbook from the Foundations level. One-to-one sessions help them close earlier gaps.
What is the difference between General and Essential subjects?
General subjects, such as Mathematical Methods and Chemistry, can count toward an ATAR and have an external exam. Essential and Applied subjects, such as Essential Mathematics, count toward the QCE. Our senior classes teach General subjects.
Can my child get help with a school assignment?
Yes. In a one-to-one session your child can go through the task sheet, plan their response and check their working. The work they submit must be their own, as school rules require.
