Diagnostic
Built from your child’s school term planner and marked by a qualified teacher, so lessons start on the gaps that matter.
A term of 10 weekly lessons with a standard tutor is $790 online or $990 in your home. The first lesson is free if it’s not the right fit.
Every lesson comes with a written note to you afterwards, a progress report every 10 lessons, KeirEd+ worksheets, and recordings of online lessons. If your tutor moves on, we find and brief the next one.
Why tutoring prices vary so much
You’ll see tutors for $30 an hour and tutors for $120 or more. The hourly rate tells you very little on its own. What matters is everything around the hour.
What makes tutoring cost more
- Good tutors who stay. We look for tutors who came through Australian schools and know what teachers expect. Tutors like that have options, so we pay them well.
- Finding and checking them. This year we spent about $7,500 on job ads. Around 250 people apply to each one, and maybe five are worth interviewing.
- Doing it above board. GST, tax, 12% super and Working with Children Checks on every tutor.
- Travel. In-home lessons cost $20 more because tutors lose teaching time driving between homes in after-school traffic.
What makes it cheaper
- Cash in hand. No GST, no tax, no super, and often no one checking their card.
- Less experience and less prep. Often a uni student or recent school leaver.
- Nothing between lessons. No notes, no recordings, no reports. If the tutor stops turning up, you start again.
We sit towards the higher end, on purpose. There’s nothing wrong with a high price if you can see what’s behind it, and our own qualified teachers are $139 in your home. We just won’t go cheap, because at $30 an hour we couldn’t pay for a good tutor and the support around them.
Talk it through on a free callIs it worth it?
Tutoring works like the gym. A few sessions feel good. Results come from turning up every week.
The expensive mistake is waiting until Year 11. By then the gaps from Years 7 to 10 are still there, and the external exam is done alone, under time pressure. Miss the course they wanted and the usual way back is a year of something else first. A year of an arts degree is $17,399 in 2026. A year of weekly tutoring with us starts at $3,160.
Parents tell us what they’re really paying for is simpler than marks. No more tears after a maths test. A teenager who gets along with their tutor. Less fighting about school at home.
Frequently asked questions
Do we pay for the first lesson?
Only if you’re happy to keep going.
We take your card details when you enrol, but the first lesson is charged only if you decide to continue after it. If it isn’t the right fit, it’s free.
How does billing work?
Each Monday, for the week ahead.
After the first lesson, we bill every Monday for that week’s lessons. If you’d rather pay for a whole term upfront, you can, and that locks in the term’s price.
Can we cancel or move a lesson?
Yes, with at least 8 hours’ notice.
You can cancel or move a lesson yourself in your Teachworks portal.
Can we pause over the school holidays?
Yes, for up to three weeks at a time.
We recommend keeping lessons going, because the first week back after a break often goes on catching up. But it’s your call, and you can pause whenever you need to. There’s no lock-in contract.
Do your prices go up?
Yes, a couple of times a year, with about two months’ notice.
Rises follow our costs and anything new we add for families. Pay for a term upfront to lock in that term’s price. If your tutor moves up a level, your price stays the same.
Can we switch between online and in-home?
Yes.
The price follows the type of lesson, so an online lesson is charged at the online price and an in-home lesson at the in-home price.
Where do you tutor in person?
Metro areas across Australia, and online everywhere else.
In Queensland that’s Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, plus Tweed Heads and Kingscliff over the border. In other states, it’s the capital cities. Everywhere else, lessons are online.
